Philippines uses ROK-made fighter jets for 1st time in combat

필리핀이 한국에서 도입한 초음속 전투기 FA-50을 처음으로 실전에 동원하며 극단주의무장단체 ‘이슬람국가’(IS)와 연계된 반군 세력의 소탕에 전력을 쏟고 있다.

필리핀 현지 언론에 따르면 필리핀군은 지난1월 25일부터 필리핀 남부 라나오 델 수르 주 에 있는 이슬람 무장반군들의 거점에 공습과 포격을 하는 등 토벌작전을 벌였다. 현지 언론들은 또 이번 공습에 한국에서 도입된 FA-50 초음속 전투기들이 투입돼 작전을수행했다고 밝혔다.

에두아르도 아뇨 필리핀군 참모총장은 FA-50을 국가 방위와 행사뿐만 아니라 국내안보작전에도 활용할 수 있다는 것을 보여줬다면서 FA-50은 “매우 뛰어났고 정밀했다”고 평가했다.

The Philippines has deployed jet fighters made by the Republic of Korea (ROK) for the first time in combat, in a move to root out Islamic State(IS)-affiliated terror groups. According to the Philippine media reports , the Filipino military has conducted air attacks and bombing operations against ISaffiliated groups converging in the Province of Lanao del Sur since January 25. The reports said the fighter jets mobilized in the operations included the ROK’s FA-50 supersonic fighter jets.

Philippine Armed Forces Chief of Staff General Eduardo Año was quoted as assessing that the FA-50s can be utilized for not only national defense and ceremonies but also security operations. He added that the jets from the ROK were “remarkable and precise”.

앞서 로드리고 두테르테 필리핀 대통령은 작년 6월 대통령 당선인 시절 “베니그노 아키노정부가 구매한 FA-50이 축하비행에만 쓰인다”고 비판했다.

필리핀은 189억 페소(4천 426억 원)를 들여2017년까지 FA-50 12대를 도입하기로 하고지금까지 4대를 들여왔다. 나머지는 연내로 모두 도입될 것이라고 필리핀 국내 언론들은 보도하고 있다.

FA-50은 고성능 T-50 훈련기를 기본으로 해서 한국이 고유의 기술로 제작한 최초의 전투기이다. 이 전투기의 최대 속도는 마하 1.5로한 번에 최대 2천km를 운항할 수 있으며 최대4.5t의 무장 탑재가 가능하다

Last June when he was president-elect, Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte raised issues with the FA-50s purchased by the Benigno Aquino government being used only in ceremonies.

The Philippines purchased 12 FA-50 jets for US$420 million, with four of them delivered to the country so far. The other jets are set to be shipped to the Philippines through this year, according to the local news media reports.

The FA-50 is the ROK's first homegrown fighter jet based on the T-50 advanced trainer. The jet can travel 1.5 times faster than the speed of sound and is capable of flying up to 2,000 kilometers without refueling, equipped with 4.5 tons of weapons
