The joint logistics department of MilitaryArea Commands in PLA takes full controlof the military¡¯s entire assets by handlinglogistics, procurement, constructionprojects and other business, and thusseen as most vulnerable to corruption.
Corruption within the 2.3-millionstrongarmed forces has raised alarmamong authorities and the public, fuelingconcern that the military¡¯s combatpower could be undermined and nationaldefense development hindered. In fact, political commissars of the joint logisticsdepartment of five out of the sevenMilitary Area Commands -- in Beijing,Guangzhou, Chengdu and Shenyangas well as Lanzhou -- have been underinvestigations for allegedly being involvedin corruption cases.
The biggest military ¡°tigers¡± - highrankingofficials in contrast to lowly ¡°flies¡±- caught in the determined anti-graftdrive by the government of PresidentXi Jinping include Xu Caihou, formervice chairman of the country¡¯s powerfulCentral Military Commission.
